A very good story was tweeted by @rromano about “le Monde: : http://bit.ly/cYxa5A Unreal that publishers of famous newspapers aren’t interested in compulsory change and can’t turn their business into an other direction. Le monde is just one of the newspapers which runs into administration and soon others will follow.
The publishers business revenue models aren’t valid anymore and their business should be (self-)assessed. Even a list of problems, as stated in the link, will only describe risks and short term options. Discussion by strategists, the board, forward thinkers should be engaged. Many newspapers are on the path of Ipad’s and E-readers but to develop business models around this will take much more effort then to just change a media carrier.
But is everything doom & gloom?
The “Le Monde” brand is famous and the infrastructure / resources to support should be rationalized (as stated in the link). No doubt about that. The challenge is to use the technologies to do clever publishing for a fraction of the price for several media carriers (which is widely available), source print and restructure the content making and aggregation.
France achieved so many successes in the enterprise segment of many industries. Where can a connection be made to “Le Monde”?

Na de verkiezingen

Volgens Mark Rutte zou er in een kleine twee weken bekend moeten worden hoe het kabinet er uit ziet. Alexander Pechtold was hier gelijk heel duidelijk over en zei dat het moeilijk wordt. Het lijkt erop dat nog steeds alles mogelijk is in de formatie en elke partij die winst heeft geboekt in de laatste verkiezingen wil erkend worden en gaan (mee) regeren.
De stekker werd in het laatste kabinet eruit getrokken door de PvdA. Dus waarom zou de PvdA weer is niet een tijdje in het oppositie bankje gaan zitten. De PvdA wordt dan genoodzaakt om een frisse wind door de eigen gelederen te laten gaan. Dat zou wel eens ten koste kunnen gaan van GL en SP die de linkse vleugel uitstekend hebben kunnen vertegenwoordigen en waarbij het GL en SP weer linkser wordt zoals ze ooit waren.
Een (midden) rechts kabinet zou slagvaardig moeten kunnen handelen t.a.v. de crisissen die de monetaire unie treft en een zeker hoofd kunnen bieden aan de begroting tekorten van de zuidelijke Euro landen. Het ambtenaren stelsel zou grondig herzien kunnen worden waarbij Agnes volledige steun heeft van de linkse oppositie en er weer eens wat politiek vuurwerk is.
Maar een rechts kabinet zou een maatschappij wel eens, in korte tijd, kunnen gaan polariseren waardoor Nederland voor andere problematieken komt te staan en het verworvene van de afgelopen decennium als burger teniet doen. Een maatschappij is geen bedrijf en vice versa. Ook al wordt soms de term Nederland B.V. gebruikt.
Als de VVD, PVV, CDA gaan regeren dan zou de Jager (zie zijn twitter meldingen over zijn voorkeur stemmen) weer de functie van Minister van financiën ambiëren. Wat geen slechte keus is. Het CDA en VVD zal haar invloed moeten gebruiken om de problemen binnen de PVV in zekere mate (van coalitie oogpunt) te begeleiden. “Mij lijkt dat er veel problemen binnen de nieuwe fractie gaan komen van de PVV.”
Het CDA wordt nog met iets heel anders geconfronteerd n.l. “de ontzuiling” van de afgelopen decennia in combinatie met een afgezwaaide leider die ruim over de houdbaarheid datum was resulteert in structureel zetel verlies die op een andere manier terug gewonnen moet worden. Een tijdje wonden likken, zelf analyses en niet in het macht centrum zitten kan tijd geven om te hergroeperen.

Consulting & Performance Delivery

Many consulting companies are still selling hours without taking the responsibility to deliver where they stand for. If a project objective isn’t defined clearly then there is logic to do so. However many projects have a deadline and the core pieces of the project are know and reflected in the business requirements and / or deliverables. Consulting companies should initiate always a (short) assessment to map the requirements and objectives. The time to do this can be consolidated in the project itself and protect the expectations for the consulting company and the customer on the deliverables. This sound obvious but many projects start in a wrong way and consulting companies are forced just to sell hours without a performance matrix.
Consulting activities should be professionalized in the next decade. This can be done by improved communication cascading about Project Key Performance Indicators, the quality of the consulting to execute the project, meet the customer expectations and just have common sense in the way how project will be executed.
The word “high performance” in consulting is a perfect marketing word but key stake holders will judge this if this is true.
Voor de verkiezing

Rouwvoet 3 dagen ziek, Rutte gaat steeds serieuzer kijken, Halsema lijkt onbetwist leiderschap op de linkervleugel te tonen, Balkende gaat voor Nederland en niet voor zichzelf (?), zelfs de foto is geupdate op twitter van Pechtold en Geert meldt een persoonlijk aspect over zijn gezin keuze. De verharding van de strijd moet er zijn omdat de kiezers niet weten wat ze willen volgens de media en veel “triviale onliners” zou de kiezer moeten gaan trekken om te gaan stemmen en kleur te bekennen.
Naar mijn mening maakt het weinig uit waar op gestemd wordt. De komende bezuinigingen gaat elke burger raken en de meest linkse partij in NL lijkt nog meer gezond verstand te hebben dan menig rechtse partij in de zuidelijke delen van Europa. De coalitie gaat bepalen hoe alles eruit gaat zien en de opgeworpen leiders van voor de verkiezing gaan dermate veel concessies doen tijdens het regeren dat alles gewoon doorgaat op oude voet.
In de UK hebben ze na de verkiezing een deel goed begrepen en dat is de vernieuwing van het kiesstelsel. Genoeg druk op de politiek zal gaan uitwijzen of we dit debat ook aangaan in Nederland. De leukste kieswijzer die ik tot nu toe tegenkwam is: www.brandvoting.nl

Kantel Punt

Het was complex om een monetaire unie te smeden binnen verdeeld Europa en het is nog complexer om het te behouden. De zuidelijke Eurolanden moeten dermate de broekriem aanhalen dat het veel vergt van een volk om hieraan te voldoen. De huidige generatie politieke leiders binnen Europa lijken een maatje te klein om dit uit te voeren en een ander type leiderschap is nodig.
Europa heeft in het verleden verscheidene kantel punten gekend. De kanteling die er nu gaat komen gaat invloed krijgen op de kwaliteit van leven van de individu. De vanzelfsprekende vrijheid lijkt aanzienlijk meer gecontroleerd en ingeperkt te worden. Of dit nu om gecontroleerd rekening rijden gaat, het registreren van wat het individu uitgeeft of het ongecontroleerd publiceren van sociale gegevens via Facebook.
Een kanteling gaat in de regel gepaard met een sterke economische fluctuatie. China heeft recentelijk haar steun geuit voor de Euro waarbij dit voor een aantal jaren geleden als een onmogelijkheid werd beschouwd. Strenge regelgeving door overheden treft in de regel een volk, volkeren en bestrijd de oorzaken nauwelijks. Een vermeend gevoel van veiligheid.
Het meeveren met wereld economieën, een meer ondergeschikte maar zeer innovatieve rol in technologie en export te nemen naar Azië zonder de eigen identiteit te verliezen kan helpen om mee te gaan door een kantel punt en er sterker uit te komen. Een ieder herkent een seizoen aan de kenmerken van het seizoen. Zal de politiek herkennen, weten wat er nodig is om veilig te stellen wat er opgebouwd is in de afgelopen decennia en continuïteit te waarborgen.
De geprojecteerde kosten besparing van de politieke partijen is een kant, wat er ook voorgesteld wordt. Maar waar zijn de programma’s om te bouwen. Iets afbreken gaat zoveel sneller dan het opbouwen. Na 9 Juni weten we meer, als volk, Nu maar hopen dat er ingezien wordt dat een kantel punt komt en daar meer voor nodig is dan retoriek.
Protocol & the Graphical Industry.

My recent experience in a hospital made one thing clear “protocols”. The protocol usage within the Pharma & Hospital industry is mature. The graphical industry could learn and professionalize their workflow, processes significantly if they would use protocols. Protocols are hardly implemented in the departments of Graphical companies (still).
The reason why protocols were hardly used in the graphical industry and protocol focus was not there is the “craftship” foundation of the Graphical Industry were the craftship prevailed for decades. Whatever program will be used within organizations that need collection of data, business intelligence & performance management. Protocols will narrow gaps, make people’s behavior more visible and will lead to an improved quality for services & products.
A simple assessment on processes , workflows will expose this and quick wins can be made easily.

Maatschappelijk Verantwoord Ondernemen heeft een vlucht gekregen gezien de debacles van de afgelopen jaren bij banken, verzekeraars, uitgeverijen, Entertainment bedrijven. MVO kan makkelijk ingezet worden als een (deel) strategie door senior management binnen een bedrijf maar hoe meet je dit binnen een organisatie? Het doel van MVO is een mentaliteit verandering waarbij een balans bereikt wordt in de bedrijf voering op gebied van inkoop, verkoop, operaties, verworven winst, milieu etc.
Een combinatie van MVO programma initiatieven (gedreven door HR), training en ICT systemen (om te loggen) kan MVO goed implementeerbaar maken. Een MVO accreditatie helpt bedrijven om “tier 1″ leverancier te worden bij multi-nationals en zal gaan bedragen aan substantiële omzet. Als eind klanten MVO herkennen (mede aangedreven door de overheid) als een kwaliteit referentie punt, wat nog enige tijd gaat duren, dan wordt de waarde keten duurzamer en is de verbinding leverancier – klant verstevigd. Iets waar vele bedrijven naar op zoek zijn.

Customer Relation Management systems is the tool to store vital data from customers, relation, suspects, prospects, quotes. The stored data can be, in genera easily, exchanged with business systems and is a vital process. The CRM GUI interfaces, especially the established ones, are in general awful. The CRM GUI have to many options and options which has no value and confuse users. Work instructions, procedures, training guide for users will mold the operations to use it but it is so 1980.
If CRM solutions will be perceived as a commodity and open source community initiatives will drive this more thorough then innovation and renewal will invoke human – machine interfaces which are less IT driven. The established CRM software solution providers will probably not invoke this change. They still make a lot of their money with all the customer required prototyping and change requests.
One of the few companies who drive change for CRM is Covide. Template driven CRM systems will for-fill a business requirement need of many organizations and lower (initial) setup costs. Time for CRM to step up to a next level.

All the Costs cutting, de-merging, mergers, operational excellence programs in the past years helped corporations to establish better shareholders value, solid operational capital and get the organization in a better health state. CEO, CFO’s & COO’s were judged by the short term programs. Compensation & benefits were given by the short term annual objectives. Seems all ok….
A trend established in the past decade to avoid major investments in ERP systems and build business requirements in (many) external business systems. A level of chaos is reached in those corporations were automation, an old word, needs to be done again. Back office automation saves costs and should been seen as Business Driven IT which support the organization and for-fill the needed business requirements to serve customers.
It is to be expected that IT budgets will be raised in the next 18 months and will be funded through the operations. This to bring mission critical systems like ERP, back office to a level which can cope with the changed customer demand. May be ERP could be seen as a hot product again……We will see.
