Enterprise Management

Due to globalization and changed customer behavior, the protection of shareholder value and reputation management has never been as challenging as nowadays. Political and financial insecurity and legislation has increased. The need for transparency of the organisation and accountability is compulsory.  As a result, organizations must plan in advance and do more with less money and resources to guarantee profitability and growth. At strategic level, organizations must effectively prioritize and make changes, based on financial and operational amendments. The aim is to make better decisions and to convert these to commercial achievement.

Document & Content Management adds value if this is part of the company strategy and / or the company mission statement. Information should be based on a “need to know” base and Enterprise Management System should be an application based solution in stat of an ICT infrastructure like Sharepoint. The cost of ownership of an Application driven Enterprise based system is significant lower and adds value in the information cascading of an organization. Neurological system

Music was / is in my whole life important. It heals, makes you happy, eases sadness and let energy flow. I read many books about music and one of the most difficult books about music to read is: Understanding Music from Jeremy Yudkin. A very analytical essay about what music does and how we process this.  My neurological system was completely blocked in 2010 (compressed coral spine by a hernia). A coral spine processes second order transactions like driving our movements of the hands, legs etc. In the coral spine there is brain liquid. If brain liquid doesn’t flow in the coral spine (by the blockage) then I faced during summer 2010 an other reality. Time was gone and my brian power diminished heavily. My second language English vanished in days. After the surgery the motion came back by learning to walk again and to exercise and reach my body limits and to push the body limits. But how to recap brain power….. Simple tasks like administration looked to me as climbing the Mount Everest. I noticed that thinking about problems, gaps, objectives of life was changed and had the “feeling’ that my IQ dropped or even a part of my identity as human was alternated. During all this I still listened to my iPod, Day in – Day out. And….some rewiring started.

Oliver Sacks, a neurologist, is quite clear about what music can do to the neurological system. The book: The Mind,s Eye is a must read. During my own investigation driven by my disability. I discovered that music has a direct impact on my neurological system. It balances feelings, emotions and reinforce the neurological system and I am convinced that it helps rewiring my thinking. Near Field Communication

The pre-decessor of NFC, Radio Frequency Identification (RFiD) seems to be reinvented as brand new in NFC. NFC or Near Field Communication will be pushed by smart phone manufacturers. But many good partnerships should be forged. Some Google phones, blackberries (and I assume the Iphone 5) can read & write NFC data. The first wave, will be NFC chips embedded in Stickers. The ordinary sticker will immediately raise in value. If NFC can be a part of packaging products then Marketing will love this. They can easily communicate in a semi-automatic fashion with the customers and / or target groups. Like Music & entertainment companies want to be less dependent of retail shops. NFC can replace, to a certain degree this “retail” gap. Brands & retail are looking for smart solutions. Retail is looking for an easy and convieniant way to pay for shopping and NFC will be the answer.

A more innovative 2012

In 1912 mechanization was a driver to achieve more production. From steam age to the oil era. Innovation was a key element in this and the Western-World embraced it.  100 years further down the time-line and civilization is on the brink to break through hurdles like travel faster then light, a world wide web as a compulsory commodity captured in smart phones, media accessible everywhere, every time, the world is travel wise within a 24 hours reachable for a descend price and so on.

Change is embedded in humanity. We face it from our childhood to adulthood. Innovation for the sake of innovation will be super-seeded by innovation that is based on clear objectives. The objectives aren’t technical anymore but functional. This fact took almost a 100 years of mankind. The user moved into the center.

It,s clear that a lot of new innovation will come and the speed of change is vast. Good or bad. It doesn,t matter. Happy 2012 and innovate!

Why project managers should use a team building model

As soon when the project / interim manager pulls the team together. The game starts. Everyone is afraid for the upcoming change. Will I have my job in the near future… What will be the quality of my job after the change and can I deliver the expected ….The driver of these thoughts is fear. Fear is good to a certain extend to facilitate change but a trust foundation block should be established in time by the interim manager to avoid a vortex. The Drexler-Sibbet team building model identifies 7 stages for a team building model. Every stage can have a positive or negative impact.

The start is orientation . What am I doing here? Can I join the team based on my knowledge, confidence or will “not focussed” and “in-securiness ” drive. The interim manager should have a strategy what to do in this phase. A fear impulse and at the same time validate people whothey are (address them on who they are not what they are) gives mixed signals and exposes stake holders.

Trust is the second stage and interacts with orientation. Sometimes this process is going into a loop. Orientation – trust – Orietation etc. Orientation can keep options open and if stakeholders will not participate in the change process. Keeping options open can be beneficial to underpin trust.

Trust should lead to the third stage “What are we going to do”. High level objectives are set and stakeholders will participate or disrupt. A few stakeholders should be critical and facts should be discussed and processed. Objectives will lead to stepping stones and stakeholders can quite often see the impact for the company, organization, business. How will it affect them…If it benefits the stakeholder (whatever the motivation will be) it will be pushed forward if trust is a foundation block. Else it can lead to resistance and people will just calculate the impact and play politics.

The fourth stage is engagement. Engagement gives energy to people and expose the person. The silver bullet question is: “how will we do this”.  Many project / interim managers likes a successful engagement part and discuss with the team how will we do this.

The implementation phase, the fifth stage) like fact, figures, craftship, knowledge will be exposed and stakeholders will be addressed on “what people are”. Managing expectation is important to link the discussed to the objectives. If to much information, or to many subjective discussions takes place then this will lead to confusion. Deadlines as expected  can only be reached if people act in a professional way and processes are shown in a clear and crisp way.

Pitfalls like to much work, ineffective teams will cripple high performance. However a successful implementation leads to high performance. This will lead to the last stage “improvement”. CPI or Continuos Process Improvement. CPI after a “high performance change” (project / interim) will facilitate change and add value to any company or organization

Many project and or interim managers using Prince2, PMP, 6Sixma and all kinds of documentation and reporting systems but they are not enough aware of the fact that stakeholders need to be managed. Drexler-Sibbet can help and guide you in this

SMART

Objectives are set based on expectations of your boss, the company and of course yourself. It helps if a value matrix will be filled with the objectives and show if your are inline with the achieved results. How will you create a nuanced objective model…CLEAR & PURE can help you to set certain dynamics in the objectives. CLEAR stand for Challenging, Legal, Environmentally, Agreed and Recorded. PURE stands for Positively stated, Understood, Relevant & Ethical.

In stat of dealing with 5 blocks, in SMART, to get a good picture of the expectations for objectives. You add human elements with PURE and context with CLEAR. Even when a company strategy is blurred for or by your managers. You expose leadership with these 14 building blocks.

Why Management models are still in 1800

Information flows in general not to the right place. People need information to manage and take correct decisions but face hurdles in access the correct information from various sources. Until now we use and learn with many management tools to establish a recurrent flow of information. One of the reasons why communication cascading is difficult is based on an sub layer. Non of the management principles are based on a justified qualified system.

There are certain similarities with the way Science exposed it-selves in 1800 or Black Vinyl was pitched in 1900 as Superb audio quality and could not be improved anymore….  A lot of development should be established in the next decades to understand which key drivers made organizations successful and extract the management building blocks.  Management should be driven in the future in a scientific way and not by craftship.

Reality Mining fits the zeitgeist and seems to be a building block in the quest for high performance management and the gravity point is the way how the individual deals with communication. A lot of contact with a lot of result works to get effective communication cascading in place.

FarmVille Widow

I am afraid that a very successful Facebook game from Zynga made me a FarmVille widow. Each day my wife must sell and buy vegetables, harvest crops and build better stables, houses and sheds. The amount of time she invests in this game is unreal. The FarmVille community is also helping each other with tips, tricks and a FarmVille expert in the community acts soon as a professional helpdesk. Even on birth day party they discuss briefly and silent about the achievements at FarmVille.  Zynga has success. Lots of success. It seems that loads of especially woman loves the game and spent hours per day to game. The changes within FarmVille application are keeping up with the expectations and demands. I

The game Sims proved, especially, with kids how successful social gaming was a decade ago and FarmVille look-a -like applications will evolve, change, adapt and be part of life for many people of all ages. Social gaming is not even in the 1.0 stage. Commodore 64 (yes I am old) images. But social gaming will be one of those Emerging market services that can run before it can walk and will cannibalize for a substantial part traditional gaming.

The male partners of our family and friends in South Africa, America, UK are also FarmVille widows but are afraid to unify :)

Tablets

In de oudheid werden al tablets gebruikt om mensen te informeren. Het klei tablet was handzaam en informatie kwam tot de lezer zoals de schrijver het bedoeld had. De tablet drager of terwijl de media heeft eeuwenlang een belangrijke rol gehad voor de mensheid. Na duizenden jaren zijn we via papyrus, boekrollen weer terug op waar we begonnen; “het tablet” en goed ver-markt door Apple als Ipad.

Alle nadelen die de Ipad heeft, wat de kenmerken van de media drager van het tablet zijn, worden breed uit gemeten. Toch is de Ipad als concept een van de beste “hernieuwde” uitvindingen van het klei tablet. Traditionele media dragers zoals boek, krant, magazine kunnen op de Ipad gepubliceerd worden. Geen tonnen papier meer maar simpel informatie tot je nemen van een tablet.

De grafische industrie, uitgevers worstelen met verdien modellen met Internet, kranten oplages lopen terug maar de kansen zijn beter dan ooit. Vernieuwing in publiceren, zelfs op traditionele media dragers zal compleet vernieuwd worden door een oud concept “het tablet”.

VVD

In de afgelopen twee jaar ben ik de politiek beter gaan volgen mede omdat in London je direct de effecten zag van de krediet crisis in de laatste twee maanden van 2008 en de Nederlandse overheid, die lange tijd veel van die problemen bagatelliseerde, het financiële feest pas bevestigde in 2009 met het redden van banken.

De intellectuele elite van Politiek midden door de coalitie PvdA, CDA, CU werd door de kiezer hard bestraft. Zodra Politiek & Overheid de connectie verliest met de burger, vroege signalen zoals van een Pim Fortuyn negeert en ontzuiling harder gaat dan men wil veroorzaakt een krediet crisis een goede canvas van wat de burger werkelijk wil.

Een VVD’er werd de afgelopen decennia gezien als een zakkenvuller waarbij een VVD’er die uit eten ging uitgelegd werd als “iemand die een vorkje gaat prikken”. Op een feestje moest je vooral niet melden dat je de liberale gedachte goed van de VVD ondersteunde want dan was je  ”die” zakkenvuller. Toch is de VVD, vooral in de laatste decennia, een kraamkamer geweest van nieuwe verlichte denkers die duidelijke een boodschap hadden waarbij een betere nuancering had gemogen. Dit lag aan de manier waarop controversiële zaken aan de man werden gebracht en de verstarde rol van de media. Marketing en communicatie werd al vroeg veel beter door socialisten begrepen in de jaren 20-tig van de vorige eeuw.

De VVD is het laatste jaar veel duidelijker geprofileerd in de maatschappij door een duidelijke liberale boodschap waarbij er zelfs in het regeer akkoord gegaan wordt voor een “common sense” benadering. De verwachte korte termijn effecten zullen bijdragen in een verbetering c.q. het behouden van een kwaliteit van leven waarbij een waarde moraal weer mag . Iets waar socialisten met hun dubbel moraal tot nu toe niet in staat zijn gebleken. Toch is de regulerende werking van socialisten goed zodra “links in wat voor vorm dan ook” in de oppositie zit.

Een liberaal als Minsister President is nieuw voor onze huidige generatie burgers. Een verfrissend idee waarbij de samenleving juist de kanteling op diverse vlakken in kan gaan en waarbij we het opgebouwde tot op zekere hoogte in stand kunnen houden en het individu weer gaat tellen.

De Provinciale Staten verkiezingen in Maart 2011 komen eraan en hoewel veel mensen niets met deze “Senatoren en verwanten” hebben is Uw stem toch belangrijk om wetten op goede manier er door heen te loodsen. Naast dat ik lid ben geworden van VVD stem ik VVD. Stem ook.
